"Alte" und "neue" Sozialdemokraten in Sachsen

Abstract

The article illustrates the background and after-effects of the so called "Conflict of Saxony" culminating in the split of the Saxon Social Democracy in 1926. The author disapproves the widespread interpretation of the conflict as an inter-generational conflict. He rejects the argument that the conflict can solely be traced back to the struggle of two generations politically socialized in different time periods. It is argued that the social background and categories such as profession and education but also different perceptions of the future gain also importance in explaining the conflict.
