Abstract

In the form of a general, comparative overview, the most important works, authors, subject areas and trends in the novels and short stories written by Majorcans in Catalan since 1970 are named. A distinction is made here between the so-called “Generation of the 70s”, who have now been literary active for two decades, and the new generation of young authors of the 1980s. Both groups are described in their essential characteristics. While the older generation of writers mostly developed their own Catalan style autodidactically, the younger generation has mostly completed a modern philology course and learned the written use of Catalan from an early age.
